RAIL CAR UNLOADING

For sites where coal is received in open hopper cars with bottom discharges, a portable vibrator can be attached the rail car to assist unloading. This method is applicable when unloading 2 or 3 cars a day and avoids a large investment in an overhead car shaker. Depending on the size of the railcar, the vibrator may need to be moved to the opposite end to finish emptying the car. A model VE3/36/3000 Rotary Electric Vibrator, 230/460 Volt-3 Phase, with a clamp-on bracket is recommended for this application. Combined weight of vibrator and bracket is approximately 125 pounds. A lifting device, such as a small hoist, is recommended to place and remove vibrator from railcar to help ensure the operator's safety.

• Vibrator requires a bracket with clamp feet to attach to end sill of rail car
• End sill must be a vertical flange
• Vibrator requires a motor starter with overload protection.

Comments:

• Vibrator bolts to a mounting assembly welded to the hopper wall.  Note: wearliners must be plug welded to outer hopper wall in area vibrator to prevent "oil canning" effect of outer wall.
• Two smaller vibrators on opposite sides works better as wet coal tends to rathole and cling to sides.
• Specify motor rating requirements for operation in coal dust atmosphere.

VE Series - 3600 RPM

• Vibrator bolts to a mounting assembly welded to a silo wall.  Note:  This is not a suitable application for coal bunkers which have a gunite lining.  Vibrator will damage gunite.
• Check data sheet for air consumption @ 80psi.  Rule of thumb: "1HP (horsepower) of compressor for each 4 CFM (Cubic Feet/Minute) of air volume.

• Opening is cut in the outer preheater wall to accommodate vibrator. A vertical flange is welded to rotating inner wall every 60 degrees. Inner wall is rotated until a flange is centered in the cut out in outer wall. Vibrator is clamped to vertical flange.Vibrator runs as basket is pulled to reduce friction. Vibrator is removed and the inner wall is rotated again so the next flange is centered in the cut out. Process repeats itself until all 6 flanges have been vibrator or until all baskets have been removed. Cut out is replaced and sealed after cleaned/new baskets are in place.
